The Nevada Nurses Association has formed a new committee that will focus on antimicrobial stewardship. We would like to encourage all nurses to join us in this significant initiative in healthcare that has global concern.
The loss of access to antibiotics due to microbial resistance represents one of the biggest worldwide threats to public health. Many public and private agencies have sounded the alarm for almost 25 years without any effect. NNA needs your help as Registered Nurses, Advance Practice Nurses healthcare leaders and educators to create a “ground level” approach to antimicrobial stewardship that incorporates education, collaboration , coordination and advocacy in a comprehensive agreed-upon approach that can unite all healthcare disciplines.
According to the World Health Organization, antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health today. It affects all countries, all patient populations. We need comprehensive healthcare initiatives and increased public awareness in order to combat this crisis and preserve the power of antibiotics. Nevada nurses need to embrace antimicrobial stewardship for improved healthcare that starts here at home.
